How to deactivate (revoke) Far Cry 2

2008-11-01 by tsukasa 16 Comments

Far Cry 2 comes with a nasty copy protection. Actually, it’s more like a strict DRM variant that needs to be activated online and can only be used X times when not properly deactivating it.

You can manually revoke an activation without uninstalling the game by simply calling:

FarCry2.exe /revoke

Easy, huh? I’d prefer Ubisoft to not use any of these bugger DRM crap at all, but then again we all know the story of software piracy (note: pirates probably have a better version without this crap, so this whole thing is totally beyond the point anyway!).

The game prompts you to enter a serial if it is not activated yet.

If you don’t have a original copy, I can’t help you – sorry.

Amazon.com has a great deal, though: $49.99 for Far Cry 2, comes with a serial number that’ll definitively work online 😉 .

It should work with both methods. As I stated before, I don’t know if this has any effect whatsoever when using files that have been tampered with but you should see a dialogue similar to the one when you first had to activate the game.

Just came across this blog while looking for the propper site. You need to run Farcry2.exe /revoke from within your farcry 2 installation folder. So if you install it to the default (whatever that is “C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Farcry 2\”) you need to type the following into the command prompt (start > run)

    cd “Installation directory” without quotes
    Farcry2.exe/ revoke

    for me it is

    cd C:\Games\Farcry 2
    Farcry2.exe /revoke

sorry to make this such  along post, just thought i’d add incase anyone else wanted to know =)

I received the following message when wanting to play fcr2 after install and uninstalling the game. ” you have exceeded the allowed activations on the same pc. To free up new activations please revoke an existing activation. Is it simular to the procedures above if not could you please assist on how to get the game going again.

    Appreciate it……

Carlo, try the Revocation Tool UbiSoft provides and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise, you should probably contact the technical support.

@string: Yes, that’s absolutely possible. You can install and use FarCry 2 on 3 machines at the same time.

If you want to install it on more machines, you have to uninstall *or* revoke the activation from one of your machines where the game is already activated.

    I’m having the same problem.

Installed it 5 times in the past (because I had to re-install my OS), but didn’t uninstall before formatting my HDD. Now I can’t activate or revoke, any ideas?
